Forget the pocket watch. Forget the stage show. Most of what people think they know about hypnosis is wrong — and in this talk, hypnotherapist and trainer Ayla Oostrom is going to show you exactly how wrong.
Hypnosis isn't a trick performed on passive subjects. It's a natural state of mind you already enter every day — shaped by advertising, ingrained habits, and the stories about yourself you've repeated so often they've quietly become your reality. Understanding what hypnosis actually is changes everything about how you see your own mind.
At the heart of this talk is a concept most people have never heard of: the critical faculty. It's the part of your mind that filters, analyses, and protects your existing beliefs — and for high-functioning, intellectually sharp people, it's especially powerful. That same analytical strength that serves you so well in your professional life may be the very thing standing between you and real, lasting change.
What we'll cover:
- The biggest misconceptions about hypnosis — and what it actually is
- Why hypnosis is already happening to you, whether you choose it or not
- What the critical faculty is, and why highly analytical people tend to have a particularly strong one
- Why that same mental sharpness can become a barrier to change — and what that means for you
